Recession Kills America’s Oldest Business: King George II Inn Closes…

I’ve just read one of the sadder new stories of late. The King George II Inn in Bristol, PA, the oldest operating businesses in the US, just closed.

To give some sense of history, the King George II has apparently been serving food for over 329 years. George Washington is supposed to have eaten at this historic place. Additionally, the King George II has weathered every previous downturn, including the Great Depression but this one killed it permanently.

The owners have said they tried for a few years to refinance their loans but had no luck. It’s such a shame when I see a place like this or any small business close. These are tough, tough times. A business owner has to be incredibly resourceful, tough and savvy to survive these days.
